What happens when you merge PDF files?
Each source document is read in your browser and its pages are copied into a new PDF in list order. The pages are not turned into screenshots, so their original text, images, and page dimensions remain part of the PDF.
File order controls page order
All pages from the first file come first, followed by every page from the next file. Move whole files up or down before starting the merge.
Personal metadata is reduced
Document information, page metadata, and supported metadata inside embedded JPEG images are removed while required colour information is retained.
Some PDF features differ
Bookmarks do not carry over, shared form structures can change, and encrypted PDFs must be unlocked in another PDF application before use.
Frequently asked questions
Are password-protected PDFs supported?
No. An encrypted PDF is rejected with a clear message. There isn't a password prompt yet.
What metadata is removed from the merged file?
Page-level metadata (embedded XMP, thumbnails) and EXIF/location data inside any embedded JPEG images. The output's Title, Author, and Producer fields are also left blank rather than copied from your source files.
Do bookmarks and form fields survive merging?
Bookmarks currently don't carry over, and a form field shared across merged files loses its shared structure (the visual fields remain, but no longer calculate together). This is a known limitation of the underlying library.
Is there a size limit?
25 MB per file, 20 files, 100 MB combined.
Can I merge the same PDF into itself twice?
Yes. Adding the same file twice is treated as intentional, so its pages appear twice in the merged PDF.
Does merging change the pages' order within each source file?
No. Each source file's internal page order is preserved. Only the order of files in your list changes.
